Silverstone hosted its first Formula One Grand Prix in 1948. Like many tracks, Silverstone was built on the site of an aerodrome, and offers fast, open corners interspersed with long straights. Ongoing track modification at Silverstone has added to the excitement and interest, providing a great number of overtaking and action viewing points.
